The US Strikes Back

Egad, this article entitled Bush's Alderaan hits the nail on the head. The title is ingeniously named to connote that poor unfortunate planet in the original Star Wars movie to fall prey to the Empire's Death Star.

While the present transition from a Republic to an Empire using the foil of a manufactured enemy echoes the more recent Star Wars movies, another more ominous echo can be found in Bush's religious fervour. Just like Darth Sidious was a dabbler in the ways of the Force, there seems to be two sides of Christianity and religiosity making its presence felt in the world today -- that of the peacemakers and fundamentalists.
