Can the Empire Strike Out?

Echoing some of my thinking on the fate of the biosphere, this piece by Bioneers founder Kenny Ausubel, claims that today's global civilization stands a chance of driving the final nail in the coffin of planet Earth. While civilizations collapsed over the last several millennia, their effects were always localized until now.

However, Ausubel tries to sound an optimistic note, by also citing the emergence of the new global superpower of popular movements (which itself is an echo of a New York Times piece following up on the February 15 global march against the war, the largest coordinated protest in world history).
